“Create Less, Promote More.“
-Salma Jafri
Have you ever thought about past articles or videos you’ve posted that performed well? Perhaps they generated a lot of impressions or the conversion rate was significant. Do you wonder if you’ll ever be able to recreate those types of results?
What if I told you there was a way for you to reuse your old content, and expand on those great ideas?
With content marketing, your limits as a writer are endless. However — thinking of new ideas day-after-day can cause you to hit a writer’s block.
This process of inevitable burnout can leave you stranded, with no ideas or topics in mind. So what can you do to stop this block, and generate more content than ever before?
Reuse → Repurpose → Recycle
When you have a successful piece of content, watching it disappear into the depths of an archive can be hard. Repurposing your digital content will bring new life, to a once successful post.
“So what exactly is Repurposed Content, and how do I make it?”
Whether it be a webinar, podcast, statistics or old blog post; opportunity is endless. Evaluate your favorite old post, and determine the most resourceful information within it.
Once you find the points that you consider imperative, decide in what way you would like to reuse it. Below is a list of 5 ways you can repurpose your old content.
Statistics Tweets
Do you have a business page? Do you also have statistics that ideal for generating traffic to your website?
Using statistics within your Tweets has its benefits, which include more exposure. Studies show that 42% of users learn about products and services while on Twitter!
Show your knowledge and provide your followers with frequent updates in your industry. By doing this you will keep your consumers informed and anxious for more!
Old Blog → “How-to Guide”
So you produced a successful blog– what did you do with it? After publishing did you just let the archive consume it?
Dig deep! Loaded with information, old blog posts are perfect for creating new content! Let’s say I created a blog article about redesigning my garden.
Using my old article, I will write down key components and create a list of steps. A “How-to Guide” is a simple step-by-step format, for instructional use.
Using the same great information from your blog, you can design new marketing content! This process will allow you to reach broader demographics, and reach more sequential learners.
Powerpoint Presentation → SlideShare
With data from a Powerpoint, you can originate a new and modern form of content to share with consumers. Recently bought by LinkedIn, Slideshare allows you to create infographic slide presentations.
Extract your Powerpoint data, and create a timeline of how you would like the slide to present itself. This method allows visual learners to process data in small, easy to swallow segments.
In digital marketing, it’s crucial to remember that people learn at different paces.
Manipulating a dull or monotonous Powerpoint can lead to a compelling content source.
When you make a SlideShare, always include captivating images, statistics, and a call-to-action (CTA). These simple attributes can engross your audience, leading to higher conversion rates.
Webinar → Video Tutorial
Perhaps you offered your clients a webinar, but many didn’t attend. Chances are — your targeted audience missed it as a result of work, everyday tasks and so on.
Because consumers didn’t see your webinar, it doesn’t mean they aren’t interested! Producing a video tutorial with information from your webinar is an excellent solution.
One idea would be to create video tutorials in segmentations. Upload a new video each week onto your Youtube or Facebook. Leave your viewers wanting more with a succeeding episode glimpse!
Blog Post → Podcast
You may be wondering what a podcast is or how it would benefit your business. Well, a podcast is an audio file that allows listeners to subscribe to its recorded source.
Using a podcast is niche oriented, and allows consumers to hone in on imperative info. The purpose of a podcast is to create an experience you can’t get on the radio.
Experiment with audio and video for more creative freedom.
One thing you want to stay clear of is being too rigid; it’s okay to stray from an outline — it makes it more personal! Incorporate your audience by reading their tweets and comments out loud.
You can include co-hosts; this is ideal for interviews and conversational pieces.
When you choose to convert a successful blog to a podcast, remember these simple tips:
- Interact with your audience (Live Tweets, Facebook, etc.)
- Laugh! Humor allows your audience to relate, and share an experience with you.
- Include a guest-host for diversity and second opinions.
- Don’t use your outline as a crutch; free thought is just as contributive.
Whatever you choose to do with your old content, remember to wait at least two weeks. This 14-day period allows your original content to develop search engine ranking, and a steady foundation.
Evolving your already prosperous content makes room for deeper reflections.
The process of repurposing content is great for producing more, and working less. Take a break from brainstorming and use existing resources, that are proven successful!
